Your name and role?
Katie L’Aimable – Owner & Lead Professional Organiser
Why did you start Dot?
After ten years of working within the education sector, a rocky couple of months and my self-esteem taking a complete battering, the world as I knew it came to an end in January 2022 when I experienced a complete emotional breakdown.
The only decision I was capable of making at this time was ultimately the one that would change the course of everything that was to come. I stepped down from the company I co-owned and over night, went from being an Ex Deputy Head Teacher and business woman to jobless for the first time in my life. The shame I felt following this was intangible.
As I did not know how to navigate the day ahead of me, let alone plan for my future professionally, I could only hold onto the two things I knew for certain; I didn’t want to go back and I desperately needed help. Although I received professional support, I would trawl through the Internet, looking for 'something else'. Never quite sure exactly what I was actually looking for but feeling sure I couldn't be the only one in this situation, I may not have found the answers I was seeking but what I did find was far greater; a gap in the market.
Following a conversation with a friend who assured me it was a 'proper job', I started brain storming how I could take my life long passion for organising, link it to helping others who felt overwhelmed and somehow, turn it into a career. I knew I wanted to create a service that not only supported peoples spacial wellbeing but their mental and emotional wellbeing too so I made this my core focus. Twelve weeks and countless long nights pouring my heart and soul into this new venture later, I gained my Professional Organiser accreditation, set up Decant.Organise.Time Limited and secured my first booking.
I love absolutely everything about dot; even the tricky days and boring accounting bits!
I feel unbelievably grateful to still be here, doing a job I adore every day whilst being able to help others reduce their mental load, one space at a time.
Tell us more about Dot
We offer a tailored range of organising and unpacking services which reflect our commitment to providing functionality and empathy to all.
Ensuring each space we organise has the perfect balance of carefully curated style and maintainable, practical systems, we are proud to provide a service that not only organises but truly transforms
What has been the most impactful and helpful gift you’ve received from a loved one, and why?
Two years ago, after 20 years of friendship and giving one another countless birthday presents over the years, my best friend and I decided we wouldn't buy each other gifts anymore.
Instead, we choose a weekend in our respective birthday months to pick up one another's children first thing on Saturday morning then drop them home on Sunday evening.
The kids now look forward to it as much as we do and nothing beats the guarentee of a guilt free (quiet!) weekend
Tell us three to four words that best describe your Inner Circle (you know, the ones who look after you while you’re busy looking after everyone else).
Advocates. Supportive. Invaluable.
